I don’t know about you, but after 10+ years in the classroom, 3 kids, and now homeschooling, we are inundated with books. I’m not going to lie. It’s entirely my fault. I love books! Especially kids books! I love the potential of a child falling in love with the story inside. I’m always encouraging our kids to read, sometimes to no avail, but I still try.
Online Story Books to the Rescue!
Even though, we are overrun with books, I still manage to not have one that I need for a lesson or one for an interest the child has developed. With a little help from the internet, TONS of books are read online for kids to watch. I used to use this resource in my classroom as another way to integrate technology and to have the children listen to other people reading stories to them.
One of my favorites is Storyline Online. The stories are read by members of the Screen Actors Guild. (“A Bad Case of Stripes” is my childrens’ favorite!)
I’ve recently stumbled upon Storytime from Space. These stories are read by astronauts on the International Space Station. They mainly focus on stories centered around STEM ideas.
YouTube also has a number of channels of kids books read aloud such as:
KidTimeStoryTime– this one uses puppets and props!
Illuminated Films– this one animates the book so the pictures look like a cartoon.
Pink Penguiny– this channel offers story videos, as well as academic and crafty videos
Do you know of anymore online story book resources? Please drop a comment in the section below or message me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m always looking for great resources to add to our homeschool.
